The 5 Purposes of Government

Protection of Individual Rights: The government makes sure that they keep you safe from criminals and makes sure things are fair for everyone. The Government are the people that run the country.

• When you violate, or take away, another persons happiness, liberty (freedom), or their life it is concidered a crime (doing something bad). The government will talk about the problems in a place called court and then determine your punishment.

Maintain Order: The government keeps things in the nation controlled and contained by enforcing laws, punishing people when they do wrong, and fixing problems between people.

• By being able to control and handle there being no conflicts between people, the government places laws and things so people know what they are and aren't allowed to do.

Providing Public Services: The government gives the people certain things we need to live.

• Water companys, air ways, electricity, and public transportation

Providing a National Defense: The government's job of protecting the nation from other countries.

• The nation has the Army, Navy, Coast Gaurd and Air Force.

Direct Economic Decisions: The governments determines how something like a town is run and makes laws that everyone must follow and makes policies that conect to the life of a community.

• The choices can help create benefits and public services to citizens.
